I would also like to reitierate the point that IF explosives were in place, they would surely have been destroyed, detonated, or burned when the plane punched through the tower wall.

3- The fact that there were 14 fighter aircraft protecting the entire nation that day is often cited as "proof" of a government conspiracy. This was in no way out of the ordinary. Budget cuts were made years before the Bush administration that reduced the number of standby aircraft significantly; there have been no more than 14 alert aircraft in the continental US since the Clinton years.
